Tagging everything correctly can ensure that you are IT when it comes to search results. This is an area that requires much fine tuning and adjusting to reach the best optimization formula for each page. There are those out there that say that Meta's don't matter any more - they are wrong. They help the Search Engines find and learn what they need to know about the web page. Their importance has been dwarfed by the importance of other criteria, but they are still deserving of attention. Everything should work together to present a website in the best, most optimal way to the search engines. Why not use every factor to your advantage?

Where are the Meta Tags?
Right click on any website and choose "View Source" this will give you a view of the code that represents what you see on the web page in a browser. Usually at the very top you will see something like this:
<meta name="Keywords" content="SEO Orlando, ... there may be several different lines with the meta information. This information does not show up on the site itself except for the title tag, as you can see in the screenshot below.
Keyword Tag - In the past keywords were abused by stuffing them full of terms that were not even always relevant. This tactic no longer works and actually can hurt your ranking. Most engines compare keyword info with words in the actual page copy that should contain the proper density of keywords that match the meta keywords.

Title Tag - Defines a page with a title. Web browsers usually display it in a window's title bar when the window is open, and in the task bar when the window is minimized. Search engines' Web crawlers may pay particular attention to the words used in the title. It is important to have each pages Title Tag be a good representation of what is contained on the page. Sites should never have the same Title Tag like the company name on every page.

    Description Tag - Provides a concise explanation of a Web page's content. The description is often, but not always, displayed on search engine results pages, so it can impact click-through rates. Keep it short, 200 characters or less is recommended size.
    Alt Tag - Can provide a textual account of what is appearing in an image, video or a flash element. Robots can’t read images, but they can read Alt Tags.
